Beauty treatments in Nelson – Winter’s most wanted!

May 30, 2018 by w b

Winter is here and with that comes the desire to rug up and enter hibernation mode. For some, that means an excuse to ease up on essential body maintenance, although that’s not a course we’d recommend… If you let that fuzz run free as temperatures freeze, you’ll find it harder to take back control in springtime. In honour of cooler temperatures, we thought we’d share some of winter’s most wanted beauty treatments.

beauty treatments nelson

  • Let’s get warmed up – A massage is a perfect way to warm up in winter. For extra toastiness try the Aromastone Massage, this blissful head to toe spa treatment uses hot stones and essential oils. Buy yours here.
  • Saving face – Your skin receives no let-up from the harsh UV rays over winter, especially in beautiful Nelson where we still have bright sunny days during the cooler months. Add to this the drying effect of wind and the lack of humidity, and your skin can become dry, red, irritated, and lacklustre. Facials are popular beauty treatments all year round, but if you want to feel like you’ve managed a winter escape, try the Pure Fiji Island Facial. We’ll take you on a journey with an ancient blend of powerful plant actives and exotic drift nut oils combined with the latest in dermatological revelations, producing phenomenal targeted facial care solutions. Buy yours here.
  • Get your glow on – Heading to a special mid-winter event in your cocktail frock? Then make sure your skin shimmers with a Sunescape Spray Tan. This beautiful natural looking tan has no harmful chemicals and is available in light, medium and dark. Spray tans are great winter beauty treatments for a quick pick me up! Buy yours here.
  • Who’s looking at you baby – If you’re wrapped in merino from torso to toes… Make your peepers work for you! Our eyebrow and eyelash tinting and taming services are a great way to help frame your face. These beauty treatments are a must all year round! Buy yours here. Ask us to help you select your new Jane Iredale mineral makeup for eyes. The autumn and winter range is stunning, we can make your eyes pop with beautiful colours, or we can show you how to create sultry smoky eyes.

Spring Skincare at Woman Beauty Nelson

October 18, 2017 by w b

The sun is shining, which means it’s the ideal time to have a spring clean. Here at Woman Beauty Nelson, we think it’s also a great opportunity to help you to shake up your spring skincare routine to help you look your best. Here are three ideas to help you:

spring skincare nelson

  1. Slough off that winter skin! Winter-formula skincare, indoor living and inclement weather take their toll, so now is the time to get rid of that seasonal build up. Exfoliation is perfect for removing dull, dead skin and will leave you looking fresher and ready to face the new season. An even better way to reveal smoother, brighter skin is with a Skin Workout – These treatments (often referred to as skin peels) aim to rejuvenate skin through accelerated exfoliation. These treatments have been developed to quickly refresh and restore skins youthful appearance.
  2. Get to know your skin. What skin type are you? What condition is your skin in right now? The only way to get your spring skincare on track is to speak to a professional – and here at Woman Beauty Nelson, we offer a thorough and comprehensive diagnostic skin analysis and consultation. Learn how to get your skin in tip-top condition and how to keep it that way! Our Diagnostic Skin Analysis & Consultation costs $45 but is redeemable on your purchase of skincare product.
  3. Spring clean your dressing table! Take an honest look at your skincare and beauty products. Are they past their best? Are there some horrors lurking that have been there for years? Half-used, out-of-date products can host a build-up of bacteria that can lead to clogged pores, dull skin and breakouts. Have a clear out – it’s therapeutic! Now you can swap out your old make up for some new Spring classics – we’re proud to be the Nelson stockist of the beautiful range of Jane Iredale mineral make-up and can help you select the perfect shades for your new season look.

Spring beauty tips – Nelson shines!

September 21, 2017 by w b

Spring has arrived in Nelson, and that can mean just one thing it’s time for some spring beauty tips. If you’ve been hibernating over the winter months, it’s time to shed those layers.

spring beauty tips nelson

Here are 5 spring beauty tips to help you get ready to bare your limbs!

  • Fight the fuzz – If you’ve let things grow a little whilst you’ve been shrowded in your winter warmers, then it’s time to get things waxed. But there’s good news! Because during winter, your skin won’t have been exposed to harsh outside factors like sun and chlorine, any redness and/or sensitivity will be minimised, and your skin will recover more quickly from any hair removal treatment. Check out the waxing menu here.
  • Get a glow – Everybody feels better with a bit of bronze… So why not get a fake tan as you start to bare your limbs. At Woman Beauty in Nelson we offer two treatment options. Spray Tan – A beautiful natural looking tan without harmful chemicals. Or Body Scrub & Spray Tan – A full body exfoliation washed away with vichy jets then a spray tan – leaves you with a very sunny complexion and a mood to match. Find both here.
  • Put your feet first – A perfect pedi and pretty toes should be on the agenda as you reach to the back of the closet for your summer sandals!
  • Switch up your skin routine – Winter can be harsh on your skin. So start the repair of your skin with a facial. There are lots to choose from here, but if you need help selecting the right one, just give us a call or pop in to reception for some advice. Once you’ve given your skin a new lease of life with your chosen facial, keep up the good work with the right products. At Woman Beauty Nelson, we offer a select range of effective, quality skin care brands and products. Take advantage of our free skin care analysis and purchase products that best suit your skin type.
  • Choose a spring palette – Choose a bright new lippy for a bright new season. We’re proud to be the Nelson stockist of the beautiful range of Jane Iredale mineral makeup. Talk to Demi our Makeup Artist about the perfect shade for you!

If you’re inspired by our spring beauty tips and would like to touch up your toes and show your skin some love in time for the warmer weather check out this month’s Grab A Treat!

  • Enjoy a foot soak and mini pedicure – Shellac application additional $25.

Secrets to beautiful hands in Nelson

August 21, 2017 by w b

If you’ve spent time outside in this Nelson winter, whether that be gardening, walking, taking part in sports or even watching from the sidelines, there’s a chance it could have taken its toll on your hands. And whilst it’s easy to be vigilant about your facial skincare regime, hands are often forgotten, making them susceptible to the first signs of ageing.

beautiful hands nelson

If you’ve noticed that your mitts are giving the game away, it’s time to start treating them with a little TLC, here are our secrets to beautiful hands.

  • Cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise – Not just for your face! Washing your hands regularly is obviously important, but be like Goldilocks… Not too hot and not too cold, is the way to go! After you have cleansed don’t forget to dry them properly. Damp hands and cool weather, equal chapped skin! Talk to us about the range of Pure Fiji products that can make your hands happy.
  • Feed your fingers – We don’t need to tell you that you are what you eat! Antioxidant-enriched foods are a must to nourish your skin, including the skin on your hands; and to keep them strong and healthy, your nails need protein, calcium, zinc and vitamin B12, to name just a few nutrients. So think, lean meat, fish and dairy with lots of green veg thrown in for good measure.
  • Protect your palms… And the backs of your hands more! – That means wearing gloves for chores (and the great outdoors in winter), ramp up the sunscreen too!
  • Manicures are a must – A manicure will instantly revive your nails and give your cuticles a much needed moisture boost. For beautiful hands, indulge in the Woman Beauty Nelson, Spa Manicure, this includes a warm sugar scrub and milk soak, hand and forearm massage, cuticle and nail file and buff with polish of your choice. $90 (french extra). Buy or gift your Spa Manicure HERE.

Anti-Ageing Options @ Woman Beauty Nelson

August 8, 2017 by w b

anti-ageing nelsonAt Woman Beauty we believe that there are many benefits that come with getting older; more wisdom, increased empathy and a satisfying knowledge that one no longer needs to wear uncomfortable shoes or knickers; are just a few things that make ageing quite bearable! And to be honest, it’s easy to feel the same age on the inside as one always has done, it’s only a glance in the mirror that can sometimes remind us that gravity has indeed begun to take its toll and that it’s time to invest in some anti-ageing solutions, and that’s where we come in, because at Woman Beauty Nelson we can help you filter back the years.

Treatments:

A facial is a guaranteed way to increase your feel-good factor. Our Anti-Ageing Trio facial offers a deep even exfoliation with Glycolic, to smooth and refine. Drift away under the red Omnilux LED light, this promotes hydration and stimulates collagen. Then our much loved 02 facial helps to plump fine lines and increase luminosity. Buy yours HERE.

Massages are well known for their therapeutic properties, but a massage can also invigorate and energise giving an often needed youthful boost! View Massage Treatments.

Products:

We offer a select range of effective, quality skin care and anti-ageing cosmeceuticals.  Cosmeceuticals contain active ingredients (10%- 25%) that help to make actual changes in the second layer of the skin, (rather than sitting on the surface), ensuring the skin functions and performs as it should. The ingredients in cosmeceuticals also help to look after and protect the important lipid barrier of the skin, allowing for better penetration of the active ingredients.
Take advantage of our free skin care analysis and purchase products that best suit your skin type.

Cosmeceuticals, Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics. Find them in Nelson

July 11, 2017 by w b

If you’ve found yourself confused by the different types of skincare available and wonder what the difference is between Cosmeceuticals, Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics then this blog is for you. We got the low-down from Laura Townsend, Ultra Coach NZ, for our favourite brand of cosmeceuticals, Ultraceuticals, you can try and buy Ultraceuticals at our Day Spa in Nelson.

Take it away Laura…

Skin care comes in a variety of types, prices and formulations. This can be confusing for many people as not all skin care is created equal! Here is an overview of what you should look for when you choose your skincare products, as the price is not always an indicator of how effective they will be.

cosmeceuticals nelson

Cosmetics

Cosmetic skin care products usually contain very few active ingredients (around 2%), this is because the products need to be suitable for all types of skin, all skin concerns and all conditions, without any consultation from a trained professional. You can usually buy these from the supermarket, pharmacy or online. Cosmetic skin care products work by sitting on the very surface of the skin; they can temporarily make your skin look nice and feel comforted, they may be heavily perfumed and will often come in a luxurious looking bottle. Often cosmetic skin care products contain a lot of filler ingredients; these have no benefit to the skin and often cause irritation and aggravation to the skin. Skin care results from using these products are often minimal as the main ingredient is water. Using these products will often result in an artificial barrier being created on the surface of the skin to trick the skin into thinking that it feels okay. As skin therapists, we often see long term damage done to the skin as a result of using the wrong cosmetic ingredients and the lack of the important lipid barrier, which helps to keep nasties out and prevent water loss within the skin is impaired.

Remember if anyone can buy it, it’s probably okay for your skin, but you won’t necessarily see great results.

Pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceutical skin care contains the highest percentage of active ingredients. These products need to be prescribed by a Doctor as the effects on the skin are very active and can cause havoc if placed in the wrong hands. They are prescription only products, and therefore don’t usually contain any nice ingredients that help to maintain a healthy skin barrier. They can have an adverse effect if used incorrectly or for a long period of time.

Think about using these products if you have an ongoing, stubborn concern with your skin.

Cosmeceuticals

Cosmeceuticals sit in the middle of Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals. They have enough active ingredients (10%- 25%) to make actual changes in the second layer of the skin and work by getting the skin to function and perform as it should. The ingredients in cosmeceuticals also help to look after and protect the important lipid barrier of the skin, allowing for better penetration of the active ingredients. These products need to come via the recommendation of a qualified skin therapist, after a thorough consultation and assessment of your skin. The formulations of this type of skin care include important delivery systems to allow the active ingredients to penetrate into the working layers of the skin, often in-house trials are carried out to ensure the efficiency of a product, with out Photoshop or touch-ups. Cosmeceuticals ensure that your skin feels the best it ever has and works to keep it that way for the long term.

Choose cosmeceuticals if you want your friends and family to comment on how clear and luminous your skin is looking!

7 foods for great skin!

June 6, 2017 by w b

This week’s blog is a guest post from Peter Minkoff. Peter is a health writer at My Empowered World and Essential Men’s Clinic from New Zealand, living in London and occasionally in Brisbane. Beside writing he’s a total wellness devotee. Follow Peter on Twitter for more tips.

A great skincare routine is essential if you want to make sure that your skin is healthy and protected from free radicals. Whilst the range of skincare products we stock at Woman can slow down the aging process, diet and nutrition also plays its part in ensuring your skin looks more radiant and fresh. Ideally, you should always strive to introduce foods that are beneficial for your skin into your diet and maintain an appropriate skincare routine in the mornings and evenings. If you think it’s time to change something about the food you consume, take a look at the following list. These are all foods that can help you feel better, stay healthy and make your skin look amazing.

1. Kiwi

You may not even be aware of this, but kiwi fruit actually contains more vitamin C than oranges. In that respect, kiwi is one of the best foods that can help your skin look brighter. Thanks to a high content of vitamin E, kiwi can improve the elasticity of your skin and reduce the amount of toxins that can otherwise clog your pores and cause breakouts.

2. Dark chocolate

Protect your skin while snacking on some delicious chocolate! Dark chocolate that has 70% of cocoa or more is rich in flavonols. These flavonols are actually very powerful antioxidants, which means that eating a couple of dark chocolate squares a day can keep your skin bright and clean. What’s more, dark chocolate is known to improve the firmness and elasticity of your skin, which makes it a great addition to your anti-aging skin routine.

3. Salmon

Salmon is definitely the best choice for your lunch or dinner if you want to keep your skin youthful and fresh for longer. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is a superfood that can prevent collagen loss in your skin, fight breakouts and even reduce the signs of first wrinkles. Not to mention that omega-3 fatty acids improve your overall health as well.

4. Avocado

Avocado contains a lot of vitamins, fiber, protein as well as biotin. Essentially, this fruit can combat skin dryness as well as soothe red and irritated skin.

5. Peppers

Peppers, especially yellow and green ones, are your perfect weapon against premature wrinkles. If you make sure to eat orange peppers as well, you can minimize sun damage, too. In general, peppers are extremely rich in antioxidants and eating them regularly can keep your skin clean, fresh, bright and supple.

6. Lemon myrtle

Let’s not forget about the spices that you can use to make your meals tasty. Lemon myrtle is definitely something that you want to include in your cooking recipes. Moreover, since lemon myrtle can be found in lip balms, lotions, hair care products and presents a natural mosquito repellent, this particular plant is very beneficial for your skin. It protects your skin from free radicals, prevents and clears breakouts, soothes redness and irritations and slows down the skin’s aging process.

7. Eggs

Regardless of the way you like them, eggs can also improve the look of your skin. Since they’re rich in zinc, eating eggs can help you regulate the production of oil and minimize breakouts as well as keep your skin fresh and glowing. Moreover, eggs can help your skin produce more collagen, which means that eating eggs can improve your skin’s texture and firmness.
