How do I get rid of age spots?

September 17, 2024 by w b

“How do I get rid of age spots?” Our clients often ask us this question. And, if you’ve asked yourself this question, read on because this article will answer it!

But before we answer that burning question, let’s look at what causes age spots in the first place.

Age spots result from your body producing excess melanin, often caused by overexposure to UV light and sometimes a deficiency in vitamin B12. People who spend a lot of time outdoors over many years without suitable sunscreen or who use tanning beds are more at risk. If you don’t have age spots and want to prevent them from appearing, be sure not to use tanning beds. Avoid burning your skin, and wear good sunscreen daily on all areas exposed to the sun, including the backs of your hands.

How do I get rid of age spots?

How do I get rid of age spots?

Age spots can be treated with many treatments. The most effective are IPL laser and Microneedling. Chemical peels can be very effective as well.

IPL:

IPL is a very quick treatment. We use an Intense Pulse Light machine to heat the melanin in the age spots, which causes the melanin-rich cells to disburse and lighten the spots. It is the fastest way to see age spots become lighter. Results are normally around ten days. The spots darken first and then slowly slough off.

Microneedling:

Microneedling creates controlled inflammation that encourages removing damaged skin cells and stimulates new cells, helping to fade hyperpigmented cells over time. It can take up to three weeks to see results, sometimes longer. This treatment works within the skin’s own healing ability, which is why results vary from person to person.

Chemical Peels:

Customised chemical peels work superficially on the top layer of the skin to exfoliate off excess pigment and improve overall skin texture and tone. Some peels also work as a tyrosinase inhibitor to help prevent more excess pigment from forming in the future. If you choose to combat age spots with this treatment, you will undoubtedly require multiple treatments. The actual number varies from client to client. You can have these treatments three weeks apart; however, it can take up to 6 months to notice great results.

Choosing Your Treatment:

All treatments require a complimentary consultation first. This consultation is crucial; IPL and chemical peels can create hyper or hypopigmentation if unsuitable. Certain medications, as well as lifestyle factors, can prevent you from having any of these treatments. All treatments have potential side effects, so we conduct thorough consultations to determine the most suitable treatment.

After Your Treatment:

After your treatment, we recommend that you always use sunscreen daily, rain or shine, and use corrective skincare designed to slow melanin production in the skin.

Using Vitamin A at night and Vitamin C during the day can help maintain results, and exfoliating twice a week to slough off dead skin cells will also help.

Skincare Tips for Changing Seasons

April 5, 2024 by w b

Autumn has arrived in Nelson. So, in this month’s article, we share our skincare tips for the changing seasons. Read on to discover how to ensure your skin stays healthy and radiant throughout the cooler months.

Skincare Tips for Changing Seasons

Skincare Tips for Changing Seasons:

Hydration is Key:

As the weather cools down, it’s essential to replenish moisture lost during the summer months.

Treatment Choice: Our seasonal special – Hydrate My Face – Your skin is prepared for the Omnilux LED light treatment and then infused with our power-packed hydrating vitamin serum to hydrate and plump your face, finishing off with our choice of day cream and mineral sun protection. BUY HERE.

Product Choice: Ultraceuticals Ultra B² Hydrating Serum. In-Spa Offer: Purchase an Ultra Skin Treatment In-Spa or two Ultraceuticals products and receive your choice of B² Hydrating Serum 30mL or Protective Antioxidant Complex 30mL for HALF PRICE.

Focus on Renewal:

Removing dead skin cells will allow for better absorption of moisturisers and other skincare products. Consider treatments and products that slough off summer buildup, revealing smoother, brighter skin underneath.

Treatment Choice: Dermaplaning—You may associate dermaplaning with the excellent job it does of removing peach fuzz facial hairs. But it can also target uneven skin texture, congestion, and a dull complexion. Get in touch to find out more.

Product Choice: Ultraceuticals Ultra Gentle Exfoliating Gel—Exfoliators have come a long way. Gone are the harsh, stripping exfoliators of days gone by! Replaced by milder gel exfoliators, which help decongest and remove surface impurities without stripping skin of vital moisture.

Repair and Restore:

Exposure to the sun’s UV rays during the summer can cause damage to the skin, leading to signs of ageing and uneven pigmentation. So, autumn is an excellent time to repair sun damage and promote cell turnover.

Treatment Choice: IPL Skin Rejuvenation – If you have unwanted age spots and pigmentation, this treatment is for you. For best results, we recommend a minimum of three to five treatments. After this, you’ll see a noticeable reduction in pigmentation and lighter and plumper skin. Talk to us about our seasonal offer pricing on this treatment.

Product Choice: Juvenate ReAlign Advanced – This product incorporates modern advances in biotechnology to fight signs of hyperpigmentation and stimulate cellular renewal.

Sunscreen is Still Essential:

Even though the days are shorter and the sun may not be quite as bright, UV rays can still damage your skin. So, continue using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. April is also skin cancer awareness month. So we have a special Ultraceuticals Gift With Purchase to encourage skin protection and sun damage prevention with a 4-step beauty routine. Purchase any Ultraceuticals cleanser, moisturiser, and sun protection and receive your choice of A, B, or C serum and a fantastic beauty bag AS YOUR COMPLIMENTARY GIFT.

If you need more advice or skincare tips for the changing seasons, call or visit us. We are happy to advise on the best products or treatments for your skin.

Microdermabrasion in Autumn

March 24, 2023 by w b

While microdermabrasion can be performed at any time of year, as we head into the cooler months, there are even more reasons to consider this treatment. Read on to discover why microdermabrasion in autumn is a perfect way to rejuvenate and refresh your skin.

microdermabrasion in autumn

Microdermabrasion in Autumn:

Reduced Sun Exposure:

During autumn, we see a reduction in the sun’s intensity, which means there is less chance of damaging the newly exposed skin after the treatment. This is especially important because the skin is more sensitive to the sun after microdermabrasion and can quickly get sunburned.

Cooler Weather:

The cooler weather in autumn can help soothe the skin after the treatment. This is because microdermabrasion can cause some redness and irritation, and cooler weather can help reduce inflammation.

Rejuvenating Effects:

Microdermabrasion helps to stimulate collagen production, which is essential for maintaining healthy and youthful-looking skin. The rejuvenating effects of microdermabrasion can be more noticeable during the cooler months when the skin tends to be drier and less hydrated.

What to expect from this treatment:

The main aim of microdermabrasion in autumn (or any time of year) is to exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells. It will stimulate cell turnover and significantly improve your skin’s texture, colour and consistency.

Microdermabrasion can improve the appearance of shallow, acne-type scarring and reduce any pigmentation changes from sun damage. It will also help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Overall, your skin will feel brighter and more energised.

Finally, after this treatment, you’ll find your skin care products become more easily absorbed upon application, making them more effective. That’s good for your pocket!

Woman Microdermabrasion Treatments:

Microdermabrasion $125 – timer from 30 mins
Offering a significant improvement of skin texture, colour and consistency via gentle dead skin cell removal, includes a masque application and shoulder and décolletage massage.

Diamond Microdermabrasion with Hydrodermabrasion $145 – timer 40 mins
A power-packed treatment, infusing active products with a combination of microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion! Allow us to transform your skin with renewed luminosity and visible results. This brand-new machine enables us to treat most skin types. Best results with a course of treatments.

How do I rehydrate my skin?

January 5, 2023 by w b

How do I rehydrate my skin? It’s a question people often ask us, especially at this time of year.

Why is my skin dehydrated?

But before we look at how to rehydrate your skin, let’s look at how it became dehydrated in the first place.

Environmental Factors:

We often expect dehydrated skin in winter when transitioning from cold outside temperatures to inside heated spaces can affect your skin. But summer comes with its environmental factors too. Sun exposure, heat and chlorine are all factors that can dry out your skin in the warmer months. But you don’t need to give up pool days and beach days. You just need to prepare your skin for summer fun and treat it well through the season.

Alcohol and Diet:

We all have a bit of a blowout at Christmas. If you’ve been surviving the previous night’s excesses by upping your coffee in the morning, your skin will suffer. Both coffee and alcohol deplete your skin’s water content. Similarly, if you’ve indulged in too many sweet or salty snacks, your skin will be showing the results of this. Salt also extracts fluid from your body and sugar can weaken collagen production.

How do I know my skin is dehydrated?

Dehydrated skin is different to dry skin. Dry skin needs moisture, and it’s a skin type. So, you’re probably already using products to combat dry skin and keep it in good shape. Dehydrated skin is a condition rather than a skin type. It needs water, and it needs it now!

Typical symptoms of dehydrated skin:

  • Overall dullness, clogged pores, congestion and a lacklustre complexion.
  • Fine lines on the surface of your skin.
  • Sensitive, itchy or irritated skin.
  • Undereye circles and darker shadowed skin around the face.

How do I rehydrate my skin?

The good news is that your skin just needs some TLC. Here are three ways to fast-track skin rehydration.

Celebrate the month with a bit of abstinence:

The beginning of the year is a great time to participate in Dry January or Veganuary.

Dry January speaks for itself. A month free from alcohol will not just help get your skin in great shape, but you’re sure to notice benefits elsewhere too.

When it comes to Veganuary, there is a school of thought that plant-based eating can help you achieve glowing skin. Even if you decide not to go entirely plant-based, consider upping your intake of some delicious summer essentials like watermelon, berries, stone fruit, citrus, peppers and tomatoes. These foods are all water-rich and will give you a boost of much-needed hydration.

Find the perfect product to plump:

Ultraceuticals, one of Australia’s pre-eminent cosmeceutical brands and one of our bestselling product lines, has a range of serums, masks and moisturisers designed to support your skin’s hydration levels. The Ultra B Hydration Mask features panthenol, sodium hyaluronate and peptides to help calm, comfort and restore hydration to your skin. Enriched with Niacinamide, this moisturising mask works to plump the skin visibly. You’ll find the link to our Ultraceuticals shop on our home page, or call into the spa when we reopen.

Take advantage of our Hydra Facial Special:

Our new and improved Hydra Facial is still on offer as one of our summer seasonal specials. This intense hydration experience restores and reactivates your skin with immediate and long-lasting effects. Enjoy double serums and masks in a single treatment. Buy yours HERE.

What do I need for my skin type?

July 7, 2022 by w b

What do I need for my skin type? It’s a question that clients who come into our Nelson Day Spa frequently ask us. And actually, that is the best time to ask us! Why? Because no one product or treatment fits everybody with the same skin type. So, it helps if we can see your skin to offer personal recommendations.

However, this article aims to answer the burning question, “What do I need for my skin type?” in more general terms. Read on for all the details:

What do I need for my skin type?

Before you read our suggestions, it might help to read a recent article we wrote to help you categorise your skin type.

We always recommend using a cleanser and moisturiser specially formulated to help your skin. However, sometimes it helps to add to your baseline products with more specific and targeted products or treatments. We can advise you of the best solutions we carry in our Nelson spa.

Oily Skin:

Consider adding a Pore Refiner Serum to your arsenal of products. This will help strengthen and refine the size of your pores and reduce oil production. We also recommend Hydrodermabrasion treatment. By incorporating a customised peel with our serum infusing hydrodermabrasion, we can offer you a deeper exfoliation and specialised skin renewal.

Dry Skin:

Ultraceuticals B2 hydration serum is like a drink of water for dehydrated skin. And for your go-to facial, consider the Advanced Signature Facial; we use advanced serums, peels and masks to correct skin imperfections. A lactic peel and sonophoresis on dry skin can infuse hydration up to 1000 times!

Sensitive Skin:

Use a good baseline range every day to help rebuild the impaired barrier. Talk to us about choosing products specific to your sensitivities. And be sure to follow up your morning routine with SPF, summer or winter! We recommend Sothys Soothing Facial combined with an Omnilux LED light therapy to strengthen your skin from within.

The best way to discover the perfect treatments and products for your skin is to call and see us. If you think you have Normal or Combination skin, we would love to see your skin to help you choose the right products for you!

What type of skin do I have?

May 6, 2022 by w b

What type of skin do I have? It’s a question clients frequently ask us when they visit our Nelson Day Spa. So, in this week’s article, we thought we would explore different skin types and their characteristics. Read on for all the details.

What type of skin do I have?

Many factors affect the look and feel of your skin. Age, hormones, diet, stress levels, and environmental changes can affect your skin’s character. Before we look at the different skin types, it’s important to note that your skin type will change over your lifetime and even from season to season.

The fact that these variations occur is a good thing; because it also means that you can improve your skin’s condition by altering your diet, and exercise regime, and choosing the correct skin care products for the season and your age.

So, let’s take a closer look at how we categorise skin type.

What type of skin do I have?

Oily Skin:

Oily skin has a shiny appearance, often with visibly enlarged pores. This skin type occurs when sebum production (naturally secreted oils) goes into overdrive. This overproduction is often the result of hormone levels. While we often see teenagers and younger adults with oily skin, other age groups of men and women can also have oily skin characteristics.

Dry Skin:

Conversely, dry skin is a skin type that secretes less sebum. It usually has an uneven texture and tone, looking dull and lifeless. Fine lines are more visible on dry skin, and so, it is often associated with ageing. But again, it can affect all age groups.

Combination Skin:

Combination skin is a common skin type that shows some dry and some oily areas. The oily areas generally manifest in what is referred to as the ‘T Zone’; the forehead, nose and chin.

Sensitive Skin:

If you have sensitive skin, you will likely find that it is red and itchy. It might also tend towards dryness. Like any skin type, sensitive skin is rarely permanent. But, you will need to be mindful of the skin care products and procedures you use to avoid flare-ups.

Normal Skin:

Normal skin is a popular term to describe well-balanced skin. In other words, the skin has a regular texture with few imperfections. It will also tolerate most products and treatments. The good news is with the proper care; any skin can become ‘normal’ skin.

The best way to discover your skin type is to visit us at Woman Beauty. We are always happy to offer advice and recommend the correct products and treatments so that you attain or keep healthy balanced skin. And remember, throughout the year, we host special events like the Observ Skin Diagnostics event and the Ultraceuticals Real Visible Results programme, where we delve a little deeper into your skin’s requirements. Scroll down and sign up if you’re not on our mailing list! That way, we can let you know when the next event happens.

Autumn Facials on Special @ Woman!

March 10, 2021 by w b

As temperatures start to cool in Nelson, it’s time to think about how the changing seasons can affect your skin. Crisper air and seasonal breezes can play havoc on your skin. Generally, it will become drier, which can result in redness, sensitivity, and irritation. It’s common for your skin to feel a little lack-lustre at this time of year. That’s why we’ve included three facial treatments in our seasonal specials for Autumn. Read on to discover which autumn facials are on special and why we know you’ll love them!

Autumn Facials on special at Woman, Nelson

Autumn Facials on Special!

Anti-Ageing Trio:

First up is a long-standing favourite, the Anti-Ageing Trio. This facial combines the anti-ageing benefits of a glycolic exfoliation with our red LED light to stimulate collagen and elastin production before finishing off with the 02 facial to visibly plump fine lines and increase luminosity.

Here’s why you’ll love it. Firstly the glycolic exfoliation will help you shed dead skin cells and reveal the newer, brighter layers underneath. The red LED light increases your skin’s natural hydration levels, reducing redness and inflammation while also stimulating collagen. So your face feels firmer. The O2 facial completes the process, nourishing your skin, so you leave with a healthy glow and luminous skin.

Buy yours HERE and save $60.

Ultraceuticals A-Zyme Retinol Peel:

This fast-acting, non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment combines proven anti-ageing ingredients Retinol and Bromelain to refresh, hydrate and plump the skin. We recommend a course of this treatment for the best results.

Why we know you’ll love it… If you’re regretting sun exposure and noticing the effect of too many Nelson summer beach days on your skin, this treatment will help combat the effects of UV damage. Immediately after treatment, your skin will feel plump, dewy and hydrated. While you’ll definitely see a difference in your skin after a single treatment, we recommend a course for longer-lasting and maximum results.

Buy yours HERE and save $40.

Sothys New Cryo Eye & Neck Treatment

Okay, not so much an autumn facial but still a seasonal special we know you’ll fall in love with because of its targeted results. The eye and neck area are often areas of concern for our clients post 35 years. And this treatment is the answer! It will visibly reduce puffiness and dark under-eye circles, as well as firming the neck and jowls.

Buy yours HERE and save $60.

While we wanted to highlight our autumn facials on special in this article, we also thought it was a perfect opportunity to tell you about the Ultrceuticals RVR Challenge. Real Visible Results in ninety days! After your facial, let us prescribe the best Ultraceuticals home care products to suit your needs. You will receive a FREE Daily protective moisturiser SPF 30 in either Mattifying or Hydrating formulation when you purchase your Ultraceuticals cleanser, serum and (night time) moisturiser. Saving $93 on the RRP! Even if you haven’t booked an autumn facial, you can still take part in the RVR Challenge, call into our Nelson city home for a skin consult, and we’ll find the right products to meet your needs.

Observ Skin Diagnostics Event

February 25, 2021 by w b

On 16th March we’ll be holding another Observ Skin Diagnostics event at Woman Beauty, Nelson, in conjunction with our visiting Ultraceuticals expert, Tracy Benporth. If you haven’t attended before we thought we’d use this post to explain how it works and the benefits you’ll see from booking an appointment.

Observ Skin Diagnostics Event with Ultraceuticals:

How the Observ machine works:

Some skin concerns begin in the deep layers of your skin and are difficult to see with the human eye. These issues are often related to sun damage, and they eventually begin to show themselves as you age. The Observ Skin Diagnostics machine can expose these conditions earlier. Meaning you get a head start on resolving any issues. The machine uses a patented skin fluorescence and polarized light illumination technology.

The machine takes images of your skin using different lighting levels, revealing blemishes or underlying skin issues in incredible detail. The whole process is fast, non-invasive and pain-free.

The images reveal a detailed analysis for each different light filter and our visiting Ultraceuticals expert, Tracy Benporth, goes through these with you.

Observ Skin Diagnostics event Nelson

What happens next?

This diagnostic consult allows our Tracy to prescribe the correct products for your skin. We include the cost of a prescribed peel in the price of your appointment. And one of our expert therapists carries out this relaxing treatment resulting in a significant improvement of skin texture, colour and consistency.

Your total appointment time for both diagnosis and treatment is sixty minutes. This consultation costs $95 (saving $150 on the regular price).

Finally, you’ll be able to book a follow-up appointment when our visiting expert returns, to see the improvements to your skin and make any adjustments to your future treatments and skincare.

But there’s more!

At this special Observ Skin Diagnostics event we offer a couple of bonuses with your booking.

  • You receive a complimentary entry into our prize draw for an Ultraceuticals package worth $250.
  • PLUS you can also take advantage of a 15% ‘on the day’ discount on all Ultraceuticals full-sized products.

If you’re ready to book your sixty-minute appointment on 16th March at our Nelson Day Spa, please do get in touch HERE. We do request payment at time of booking to reserve your space.
