18th October marks World Menopause Day. There’s no doubt that menopause can be challenging for many women. Fluctuating hormone levels and a reduction in oestrogen can cause various symptoms. So, it won’t surprise you that clients often ask us, “Can massage help with menopause symptoms?” While massage therapy can’t directly treat the underlying hormonal changes that take place during menopause and peri-menopause, it may, indeed, provide relief from some of the symptoms associated with menopause.
Can massage help with menopause symptoms?
You can fight the feelings…
Menopause often brings with it increased stress, anxiety and mood swings. Simply stepping through the doors to our beautiful day spa will help you relax. We’re well known for the calming and nurturing environment we offer all our clients.
Then, of course, endorphins (feel-good hormones) are released. As our therapists work their magic, blood flow increases, stimulating the release of serotonin and dopamine. But don’t just take our word for it… Here’s what a recent client had to say when she reviewed us on Facebook.
Pain, pain, go away!
Many women experience muscle aches, joint pain, and headaches during menopause. As Lisa’s review testifies above, massage can help alleviate these pains. A good massage will reduce muscle tension and release tightness in muscles and joints.
Farewell hot flushes:
It’s no secret that things can get a little warm for many women during menopause. But massage can help to calm your nervous system, which, in turn, can promote better body temperature regulation.
Sleep well:
Finally, if you find your sleep pattern has been disturbed, and you’re waking at night, you may find regular massage will aid your return to restfulness.
